How it Works

Nursery Support has operated for 40 years on a good faith basis. We don’t require contracts with our clients. Child Care centres call us when they need staff and we do our best to help. In four decades we have had only five people answering our phones and working directly with clients. At Nursery Support we believe it is important to know each client and the needs and individual personalities of their centres. That way we can match talent to task, whether for a day, a week or several months.

Bookings have a four-hour minimum, with no charge for cancelling a booking provided we can reach our staff before they have left for the Child Care centre. In that case the client would be charged for 4 hours and should make use of the staff for that time when she/he arrives at their centre.

We pay our staff weekly, based on time sheets showing hours worked at each Child Care centre, signed by our clients. A copy of that time sheet is left with the client. The client is then invoiced based on that information. Our terms are net 30 days

Nursery Support provides all our staff with WSIB insurance coverage. That way, should one of our employees be injured at a client’s workplace, we look after the claim process, and our client’s WSIB rates are not affected.

Each teacher carries copies of all required professional documents.

Get The Best Results When Working With Nursery Support Supply Staff

  1. Always call 416-284-0491 to reach Nursery Support. Disregard any numbers you may see on your call display during return calls from NSS.
  2. When booking, we need your centre’s name, your name plus day and evening phone numbers, the age group and shift you need help with, and whether you need an RECE or an Assistant.
  3. Please tell or leave instructions so your permanent staff knows the name of the supply staff who will be arriving, what room they will be in and the duration of their shift.
  4. When the teacher arrives, provide clear programming for the day, including lunch and breaks.
  5. Briefly tour the facility showing staff room, adult washroom and emergency exits.
  6. Introduce the teacher to your staff.
  7. Introduce the teacher to the children. This gives the supply teacher a greater opportunity to establish themselves as a safe and caring adult.
  8. Ensure the teacher is aware of any children in the group who may have allergies or special needs.
  9. Remember, NSS staff do not administer medication, but they are trained in First Aid/CPR Level C.
  10. Have the children wear their Child Care identification when off the premises, even to a local park.
  11. Make sure a permanent staff member is present at pick-up time to identify the correct pick-up person for each child. NSS staff do not release children to parents or caregivers.
  12. A permanent staff member needs to sign our teacher’s time sheet at the end of each day, whether or not the teacher is returning the next day.
  13. You may get a follow-up call to see if our teacher was a “good fit”. Of course, we welcome your feedback any time.
